Hike Details: Mianus River Park's well-maintained trails in Greenwich and Stamford offer no mountains to conquer or raging rivers to ford, and no rock scrambles or bushwacks, just an easy and pleasant ramble in a quiet, scenic portion of Fairfield County.
Starting from the southwest corner of the park in Greenwich, we'll hike counter-clockwise along the park's yellow perimeter trail, as well as smaller side trails.
We plan to maintain a steady, moderate pace throughout the hike. The route is mostly flat terrain, interspersed with a few very gentle hills; about 350 feet of total elevation over the course of the 6 mile loop (in contrast, a 6 mile hike in Harriman or Ward Pound Ridge will generally involve 1000-1500 feet of elevation). Please note that sturdy footwear is strongly advised due to rocky portions of the trails; also hiking poles if you regularly use them.
Bring lunch, which we'll plan to eat at the chimney ruin at the northern tip of the park midway through our hike.
More miles options: For those seeking additional mileage, I plan to do a 2-3 mile post-hike loop at Greenwich's Babcock Preserve (4 miles away); all are welcome and no need for you to decide until after our Mianus hike.
RSVP for "yes" only, by 7 pm Monday, at https://activities.outdoors.org/s/oc-activity/a5UVX00000139hJ2AQ/act00019583 A pre-hike note, including detailed directions, will be sent to all signed up participants at that time.
AMC Health Advisory: Covid and other respiratory illnesses are circulating in our communities. Do not participate in this hike if you, or someone who you have recently been in contact with, is either infected or symptomatic.
