The listed start time for this event is the time when the ferry leaves the Ossining dock for Haverstraw. This is the first ferry of the holiday and it will be crowded.
There are three trains you can take to Ossining to catch the 11:55 ferry. An important consideration is that the restroom in the Ossining waterfront park will the the only restroom available until we reach Nyack Beach Park at 6.4 miles.
- 9:53 express train arriving Ossining 10:50, I will take this train, time to relax on the Ossining waterfront, stop at the restroom, get on the ferry line
- 10:25 local train arriving Ossining 11:28, probably enough time to hit the restroom and get on the ferry line
- 10:53 express train arriving Ossining 11:50, just 5 minutes before the ferry leaves and possibly too late to make the ferry, if you take this train, sit in the second to last train car and then run up the stairs and go left down the ramp to the ferry
If you miss the 11:55 ferry take the 12:55 ferry and follow the route, you may be able to catch up.
Walking route: south on Riverside Avenue about 1.5 miles to the Haverstraw River Trail, about 5 miles to Nyack Beach State Park (restroom) then North Broadway for about 2 miles, right on Main Street, left on S. Franklin to the bus stop on the left in the parking lot: free eastbound H05 bus to White Plains train station, free eastbound H07 bus to Tarrytown train station.
Returning to the city, there is a 6:02 express train, a 6:18 local train and a 6:51 semi-express train. If you are in a holiday mood, Tarrytown has very good July 4th fireworks on the Hudson River beginning around 9:00 pm.
