Friday looks like a real nice day for those who can join us in Jamaica Estates in Queens, which is a scenic and serene neighborhood whose tree-lined streets give it a picturesque look. It is known for its stunning architectural beauty, with homes of many styles, and we will see the two of those which President Trump lived in as a child. The first, a smaller Tudor style residence where he lived until he was four, and the second, a 23-room mansion where he moved after his brother was born.

We will then enter the park-like campus of St. John’s University with its Great Lawn on the quad and beautiful stone buildings. We will visit the church with its splendid mosaics and stained-glass windows, as well as the Yeh art gallery in Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall, built for the Asian-studies department and modeled on an ancient Chinese palace. Another treat is the fabled basketball arena and gallery.

We end at 169th Street and Hillside Avenue, where there are many South Asian restaurants and shops, and access to the F train back to Manhattan and elsewhere.

We will walk at a steady, moderate but not slow pace over a distance of around 4 miles, stopping at places of interest. There will be no lunch stop, so bring some snacks along if you wish. (This hike is intended for adults 18 years and older and please no dogs).

We meet at 1 PM in front of Cold Crush at 179-39 Hillside Avenue. To get there take the F train to 179th Street, the last stop in Queens, and exit by the 24-hour token booth at 179th Street on the north side of Hillside Avenue.

You have an option of signing a paper liability waiver at the meeting place, but encouraged to do so online on the AMC website by clicking on link below:
