FABULOUS BRONX JOURNEY THROUGH MARVELOUS MOTT HAVEN-LAND OF HISTORY AND LUXURY

Mott Haven is a fascinating neighborhood, with no less than 3 declared historic districts with their magnificent homes within its boundaries. Although it had fallen on hard times, gentrification is now evident with several new luxury apartment complexes along the river overlooking Manhattan, as well as trendy stores and cafes. It had been the home to many immigrant groups over the years, as well as residents who played a major role in American history, including a signer of the declaration of independence and a framer of the US constitution. Among other things we will visit the historic districts, what was once the piano capital of the nation as well as a major antiques district. We will end at the same place as the start.

We will walk at a steady, moderate but not slow pace over a distance of around 4 miles (perhaps a bit less), stopping at places of interest. There will be no lunch stop, so bring some snacks along if you wish. (This hike is intended for adults 18 years and older and please no dogs).

To get to the starting point, take the 6 train to 3rd Ave. and 138th Street in the Bronx. Exit at Alexander Avenue and 138th Street, walk 2 blocks north to 140th Street to the Mott Haven Public Library at 321 East 140th Street at the corner of Alexander Avenue.
