RED HOOK HIKE WITH DELICIOUS FOOD, ART AND MORE BY THE WATERFRONT(MODERATE)

On this urban hike in the waterfront neighborhood of Red Hook in Brooklyn there are food samples to satisfy everyone's taste. We will pass no less than a chocolate factory, 2 distilleries, a gourmet Mexican ice cream manufacturer, 2 wineries, and brownie and key lime pie baking facilities. We also will visit Pioneer Works, the artistic hub of the neighborhood, a pinball museum and some other galleries that are open, a railroad barge and tanker by the water, and a pier with the best views of the Statue of Liberty from land. We begin the hike in this charming neighborhood at the Smith-9th Street subway station, the highest rapid transit station in the world. And you can take a free boat ride back to Manhattan at the end (or a short bus ride back to the subway where we began).

We will walk at a steady, moderate but not slow pace over a distance of around 4.5 miles, stopping at places of interest. There will be no lunch stop, so bring some snacks along if you wish. (This hike is intended for adults 18 years and older and please no dogs). Mike Itkis will be co-leader on this event.

Precipitation or even questionable forecast may cancel, postpone or modify; check website for latest updates. We begin at 12:30 PM at the Smith-9th Street Deli and Grocery at 3-5 9th Street in Brooklyn. Take the F train to the Smith-9th Street Station in Brooklyn to get to the starting spot.
