🚗 Shuttle:
NOTE: By participating in this hike, you agree to cooperate with the car shuttle arrangements, including helping transport hikers and vehicles as needed to and from the trailhead.

GPS: 41.594978, -73.586346
🥾 The Hike:
We’ll hike through the beautiful Pawling Nature Preserve, pass the Wiley Shelter, cross from New York into Connecticut, and finish at the AT parking area on CT 55.
This is a wonderful opportunity to experience a section of the AT, with peaceful woods, varied terrain, and the excitement of crossing state lines on foot! 🌲🥾

### 🌤️ Weather
### 🌦️ Current outlook for the trail
The forecast along the route is generally pointing toward:
- Cool to mild temperatures, roughly mid-60s°F during the day
- Cloudy/partly cloudy conditions
- A chance of light rain, particularly in the current forecast for the Connecticut end
- Light winds
- Morning temperatures around the upper 40s to low 50s°F
One important point: the two ends of this hike have somewhat different forecasts. The NY 22/Pawling end is in Dutchess County, while the CT 55/Gaylordsville end is farther east in Connecticut. Current extended forecasts show some variation between them.
### 🥾 For our hike
Given the current outlook, let's plan for fall hiking conditions:
- Light layers
- Lightweight rain jacket
- Waterproof/resistant hiking shoes or boots
- Poles, especially if the trail is wet
- Extra layer for the morning
- Plenty of water and food
Because this is an AT section with a shuttle, we also need to be prepared for a wet trail if rain occurs during the preceding days.
I will not make a cancellation decision based on this forecast yet. We're still one week out, and the forecast should become considerably more reliable around Tuesday–Wednesday, September 22–23. That's when I'd take a closer look at hourly rain chances, thunderstorms, temperature, wind, and trail conditions. Weather conditions can change, so please check the final forecast before leaving home and come prepared for changing conditions. (National Weather Service)
