Walkway over the Hudson has the distinction of being the longest pedestrian bridge in the world, offering some spectacular views of the Hudson, Poughkeepsie and the surrounding areas. At this time of year, it's a great place to view the fall foliage. The last time I led this, the elevator was out of service and the group had to do some walking through Poughkeepsie to get to the eastern terminus of the Walkway. I'd like to do this again, but this time stop off at some well known landmarks in Poughkeepsie before crossing the Walkway . Once we cross the the river, we'll go through Highland Hamlet, do a short hike in Franny Reese State Park and return to Poughkeepsie over the Mid Hudson Bridge. I expect the hike to be about 9 miles and about 700 feet of elevation gain. There will be a mix of road walking with some hiking in Franny Reese State Park.

Please bring 1-2 liters of water, lunch, snacks, sunscreen, a wide brimmed hat and trail shoes (hiking boots are ok, but probably overkill). This hike would be rated 3C9 under the old system. If you're coming by train, take the 8:56 Hudson Line train leaving Grand Central to Poughkeepsie, arriving at 10:58 Drivers: Park at the Poughkeepsie Metro North train station (free on weekends) at around 10:50. The leader will be driving. Everyone: Walk up to the vestibule of the Poughkeepsie train station and meet in front of the ticket office. I'll be waiting there with sign up sheets. There are restrooms in the station. No dogs, no smoking, no drones.
