A 5-hour, 11-mile hike with 1,262 feet elevation beginning and ending at the H07 bus stop in Downtown Nyack. The walk includes great views up and down the Hudson Valley. The walk is rated strenuous due to the length and elevation gain.

Take the 9:25 am Hudson Line local train from Grand Central to Tarrytown, arriving Tarrytown 10:18. Then take the 10:35 H07 westbound bus from the bus stop next to the train station to Downtown Nyack at South Franklin Street and Artopee Way, arriving at 11:00.

We will walk north on North Broadway to the La Promenade cafe at Castle Hill Avenue for restrooms and the chance to get coffee, baked goods, sandwiches, etc., this is the menu La Promenade menu I have never been to the cafe, but it looks good online and it's a convenient spot for a restroom and to grab some food for the hike. If you do enter the cafe and use the restroom then please make a purchase as thanks.

We continue north on North Broadway to River Hook Preserve, west through the preserve to North Midland Avenue, left on Kuyper Drive, right on Palmer Drive to the end, then left on the trail to reach the Long Path. We will follow the Long Path up to and along Hook Mountain to Landing Hill Road, left on Landing Hill Road, right on Rockland Lake Road to the first parking lot, which has restrooms and picnic tables and that will be lunch.

After lunch, back to Landing Hill Road and follow it down to the Nyack River Trail, then a stop at the restrooms at Nyack Beach Park and south on North Broadway back to the starting point to catch the eastbound H07 bus.

The bus fare is $2.75, there are ticket machines but they are not great so it might be easier to just bring the $2.75 x 2 in cash. There are return buses at 5:08 and 5:37 and return trains at 5:46, 6:02, 6:18.

The walk to the top of Hook Mountain will be occasionally steep and occasionally rocky but with minimal scrambling. Boots or trail shoes are better but sneakers are okay, pants are better than shorts as branches grown over the trail may scrape and there are ticks and it may be windy on top of the mountain. Hiking poles will be useful. Bring water, snacks and lunch. Dogs are not allowed on the hike.
