What we’re about
The Appalachian Mountain Club (“AMC”) is one of the oldest outdoors groups in the United States. We offer activities for all types and levels of outdoor enthusiasts, including hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, kayaking, bicycling and more!
AMC has 12 regional chapters in the Northeast region that stretch from Maine to Washington, D.C. The New York-North Jersey Chapter is the second largest with over 12,000 members. We have over 100,000 members nationally.
Young Members (“YM”) is an affinity group within AMC for members in their 20’s and 30’s. YM holds monthly outdoors events (e.g., day hikes, camping trips, kayaking trips) and a happy hour on every third Thursday of the month (“Thirsty Third Thursdays”). A few times a year, we hold inter-chapter events with YM groups from the 11 other chapters in our organization.
If you’re interested in the outdoors and are looking to make new friends, then please come to one of our events. Please note that we’re open to everyone, including “non-members”!

Mindfulness Walks Series: Central Park, Prospect Park, Sound View Park Dates: Sunday 8/3 | Sunday 8/10 | Sunday 8/17 | Sunday 8/24
AMC Staff: Sofi Petroski (973-424-7282)Looking to deepen your connection with the outdoors—right here in NYC!
Join the Appalachian Mountain Club this National Wellness Month for restorative walks and journaling experiences in parks throughout New York City. Every Sunday afternoon is dedicated to folks in their 20s & 30s.
We’ll begin in Central Park at the 72nd Street entrance and Central Park West, aka the "Women's Gate." Then we'll ease into a mindful nature-bathing experience as we take in the park's natural beauty. From there, we’ll stroll at a relaxed pace around the lake, crossing the iconic Bow Bridge before settling in at Sheep Meadow for a peaceful journaling workshop.
Journaling prompts will be provided to help guide your reflections, but you're welcome to write freely—whatever speaks to you in the moment. The focus of this walk is to slow down, recharge, and reconnect with yourself through nature and self-expression.
We’ll wrap up back on West 72nd St at the Women's Gate, leaving you grounded, inspired, and refreshed.
Bring water, weather-appropriate clothes, a journal / notebook, writing or drawing utensils, sturdy footwear, and a positive attitude! Well behaved and leashed dogs are permitted on this walk.
If weather forces cancellation, we'll post an update at least 2 hours in advance.

(max 15 participants so we don't overwhelm the bar)Tired of small talk over loud music??
Join us for something a little better: a relaxed after-work walk along the water with other 20- and 30-somethings who like being outside and being social.
We’ll start in Battery Park at the start of the Battery Bikeway (between State Street and the SeaGlass Carousel) and follow the Hudson River path up through Battery Park City—an easy, flat 1.5-mile stroll with plenty of views, greenery, and space to chat as we walk. No pressure, no name tags—just a casual chance to meet new people while doing something actually enjoyable.
We’ll end at Treadwell Park, a big, group-friendly beer hall with great drinks, snacks, and enough space for all of us to hang out. Whether you're looking to meet someone new, expand your friend circle, or just unwind after work, you’re welcome here.
The nearest subway to the meeting point is the #1 line at South Ferry Station or the R/W line at Whitehall St-South Ferry Station.
