About us
This group exists to provide community, and connection for Americans living in British Columbia.
As Americans, we blend in pretty well in Canada. Sometimes a little too well. You might find most of your friends are Canadian, and no one fully gets the references, the background, or the “between two countries” experience.
We love living in Canada, but every so often it’s nice to be around people who share the same stories. Whether you’re brand new to BC, or you have deep roots here through dual citizenship, family, or years of living in Canada, you’re welcome.
This group is for you if:
- You’re American, identify as American, or have deep ties to the US
- You’d enjoy sharing dinner, drinks, or coffee, and/or joining a hike or a run with fellow expats
- You’re tolerant. We welcome all races, ages, cultural backgrounds, religious backgrounds, sexual orientations, and political views
This group is not for you if:
- You impose your political, religious, or other beliefs on others. It’s fine to talk about politics or religion, but read the room. Keep it respectful and rooted in personal experience. The line is crossed when conversations turn angry, toxic, disrespectful, or are aimed at recruiting others into your worldview
- You engage in Canada-bashing. We love Canada and have chosen to call it home. We hope you love it too
- You engage in America-bashing. America has its share of problems, but it’s also where we came from and where many of our families live, and that deserves respect
