What we’re about

This is a group for intrepid adventurers, frugal travelers, avid hikers, mountains lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
We plan to get together a car load of people and explore the great American West and other destinations. The general format of our trips will be a combination of road trip and hiking trips. We will fly to a major airport, rent a car and camp, hike and backpack along the way. We will have a trip organized for every national holiday and maybe some more. We will take two days off from work around national holiday weekends, which will give us five days for a trip.
Our trips and hikes will be fast paced, aiming to pack as many attractions as possible in a short time.
We will prefer long day hikes to backpacking, except when we want to reach destinations too far away. Participants are expected to be in good physical condition and at least somewhat experienced. The hiking pace will be at 2-3 miles per hour, sustained hiking for long periods of time, sometimes with significant elevation gain.
We will focus on maximizing hiking and driving time during the day, rather than having lengthy, elaborate meals and lots of sleep. We will buy food for the whole trip for the first day and avoid making many stops on the way.
We will not have as our focus to reach major American tourist destinations, since many people have already seen those, but we will not turn away from them if they are on our way.
Almost all trips will be exploratory. Although the organizer has been in the general area or even particular mountain range we are going to, the trail will be new to him.
