Camino de Santiago training on the Springfield Trail
Smedley Park (Delaware County Park), 20 Papermill Rd, Springfield, PA, USApproximately 5 miles in length, the Springfield loop trail follows several tributaries, namely Whiskey Run, Crum Creek and Lownes Run. Along the trail are remnants of a paper mill and various other mills, as well as the homes of those who worked in or supported the mills. Wildlife sightings are frequent, such as frogs, toads, turtles, deer, raccoons, foxes, opossum, and many others. The terrain is mostly wooded, with a half dozen water crossings (easy), some steep hills, and some paved neighborhoods. Hiking poles are highly recommended, as is waterproof footwear.
This hike is recommended for those seeking to train for the Camino de Santiago in Spain, and for those who are interested in discovering it.
This event is dog free.
There is a movie screening of "The Way, My Way" scheduled at 2pm nearby. If you would like to attend the movie screening, please RSVP separately for that event.
(thanks to Beatriz for the writeup from a prior walk)

9-10 Mile Hike & Bald Eagle Watching at Conowingo Dam
Susquehanna State Park, 4122 Wilkinson Rd, Havre De Grace, MD, USJoin us for a hike in Susquehanna State Park in Havre De Grace, Maryland.
Between the months of November and February, about 150 American Bald Eagles gather at the base of the Conowingo Dam to fish, built nests and make baby eagles. All along the hike, we will be able to watch American Bald Eagles grab fish out of the river and then if we are lucky, we will see the birds fight over the fish.
We will walk along an old train track path that was converted to a hiking / biking trail along the Susquehanna River at Harve De Grace. It is a flat trail that goes from near the bridge over Rt. 95 to the Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna River. The Path is 4-5 miles to the dam and then 4-5 miles back to the car (9-10 miles round trip walk). When the hike is finished, we can eat /have a beer in the tiny town of Harve De Grace on the Chesapeake Bay. The path is flat and easy.
Leave a message in the comment section for car pooling needs.
Food: At the Conowingo Dam, there are picnic tables to eat snacks, bathrooms and then time to watch the Bald Eagles and take pictures for people with good cameras. After the hike, we will find a place to eat in Havre De Grace on the Chesapeake Bay.
Bathrooms: There will be some bathrooms along the way.
Rain/Inclement Weather: In the event of rain or poor weather, we will reschedule this hike.
