Make Gloves and Mittens from Felted Sweaters

Make Gloves and Mittens from Felted Sweaters

Details

At this workshop, you'll learn to make gloves and mittens from felted wool sweaters. Vanessa Preast will show you from her patterns featured on the site Burdastyle, which can be adjusted to fit your hands. From one felted wool sweater you can create one pair of gloves or mittens from the bottom and perhaps another pair of mittens from the sleeves.

The workshop is free if you're going to bring your own sweater (see indications below), and $10 if you use a sweater we will have available.

Please RSVP by Thursday 2/14 so that we know how many sweaters to purchase from the thrift stores across Ames. You may come later, but we cannot promise we'll have enough sweaters.

You can make all sorts of things from old sweaters.
Check it out:

If you bring your own sweater
*It must have ribbing along the bottom of the sweater and the sleeves. This gives the stretch so it molds to the body and stays on.
*The gloves will need more thin sweaters. Use your own judgement on this if you can.
*Felt the sweater by throwing it in a washing machine with plenty of soap and hot water and your highest agitation setting (like "soiled" as opposed to "normal" or "delicate") and then toss it in a hot dryer. More on Felting: http://bit.ly/VC37K5.
