About Homelessness in Taiwan

Details
The topic:
Taiwan, or rather Taipei, has a problem with homelessness: anyone who has ever been to the main station has seen the people who have no bed, no home, no roof over their heads and have to spend the night on the street - in the rain, cold or heat. Yet Taiwan is a very wealthy nation and has a functioning social system: how can it be that people are homeless here? Who is affected by homelessness and why? What is being done to help them? What about the stigma on homelessness?
The speaker:
We invited Luke Piggott to tell us about homelessness in Taiwan, the problems people face and the current situation in Taipei. He will shed light on the background to this phenomenon, introduce us to the SALT Collectiv and ways to get involved and, of course, answer questions. Luke is the project manager and looks after the SALT kitchen and homeless programs for SALT Collectiv and is looking to expand and increase the frequency of these programs.
About SALT:
Salt is used as a seasoning to bring flavour and joy to what we eat, as a preservative to bring stability and longevity to stored foods and is essential to the healthy functioning of the human body. SALT Collectiv seeks to perform similar functions for the vulnerable and marginalised in our society: homeless people, incarcerated people, orphaned children and the elderly. We work with the idea that giving is a muscle that has to be exercised in order to grow, and we seek to take every opportunity to share and grow that culture of giving
The event
We start at 7PM. The AI team will be there to welcome you. Then Luke will speak and this will be followed by a Q and A, deeper conversation and hearing perspectives and ideas from those that want to share. It's all informal and a safe space for everyone.
Entrance is free! A purchase from the bar is appreciated (juice, green tea and coffee - free refills!)
