Pick Up a Pen for Palestine: Letter Writing to Palestinian Political Prisoners
Details
Join us for a collective letter writing action in solidarity with political prisoners of the Palestinian struggle in occupied Palestine, Europe and the U.S.
Over 1 million Palestinians have been systematically arrested by Israel since 1967. Today, more than 9,000 Palestinian political prisoners and detainees remain imprisoned, including over 300 children. The majority are held without charge or trial. These figures do not include those held in military camps, nor the countless Palestinians kidnapped and disappeared during the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Nearly every Palestinian family has experienced the imprisonment of at least one loved one. Mass incarceration is a core tool of settler-colonial rule; used to fracture communities, suppress resistance, and facilitate the ongoing theft of land.
These practices are flagrant violations of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention. Imprisonment does not only punish the detainee; it collectively punishes families and communities, who are often denied visits, information, or even confirmation of their loved ones’ whereabouts.
At the same time, governments around the world continue to enable Israel’s genocide while criminalising solidarity. Activists exposing state complicity and organising for a liberated Palestine face surveillance, repression and imprisonment across Europe, the U.S., and beyond.
Political prisoners are the backbone of Palestine’s struggle. This letter writing action affirms that those imprisoned are not forgotten, and that our solidarity with them continues. We will write to remind them that their courage sustains us, and that the fight for justice and a free Palestine cannot be complete without their freedom.
