Come hear the story of Dr. Wu Yi-Chun (鄔逸群), a Taiwanese plastic and reconstructive surgeon who provided medical aid in Gaza as part of a Doctors without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF) humanitarian mission.

From July to August 2024, and again in January 2025, Dr. Wu worked at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza treating severe injuries including blast wounds, amputations and burns.

During this event, he will share his firsthand experiences from Gaza, and speak to why MSF’s presence is so vital at a time when Israel has systematically targeted the Palestinian healthcare system, killing more than 1,700 Palestinian healthcare workers and forcing Palestinians to increasingly rely on international aid to survive.

Rather than opening access more widely to groups offering aid, Israel has deliberately blocked such aid. In December 2025, the Israeli authorities announced a ban on 37 aid organisations operating in Gaza and the West Bank. Among them is MSF, one of the largest providers of medical care in Gaza.

In 2025 alone, MSF carried out more than 800,000 medical consultations and supported over 10,000 births. They provide at least 20% of Gaza’s hospital beds, and operate around 20 health centres across the territory.

The UN and various aid organisations have warned that without the presence of international medical groups like MSF, Gaza’s healthcare system risks total collapse.
Emergency services, maternal healthcare, and paediatric treatment are all under threat, potentially leaving hundreds of thousands of people without access to basic medical care.

Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza continues despite the “ceasefire”. While headlines and social media algorithms have shifted their attention elsewhere, Israel continues to deliberately and systemically eliminate the conditions necessary for Palestinians to live, rebuild, return and exercise self-determination.

We refuse to turn a blind eye, and ignore the colossal injustice and suffering. Come join us to deepen our understanding and share thoughts on what we can do from Taiwan.
