About us
We’re a casual, international group based in Amstelveen, bringing people together through shared interests in Japan and cultural exchange.
Originally started by Goro – an artist who left the Netherlands in 2024 – the group is now run by a team of local organisers.
Goro still keeps in touch from Japan and remains involved in spirit, supporting the group’s aim to connect people through language, art, and community events, while also running a sister group in Kyoto.
Our regular activities include:
– Japanese Language Club (weekends)
– Local outings (e.g. Japan Festival, Hanami Walk, etc.)
– Plus more events planned by each local organiser
We welcome everyone with the spirit of ichigo ichie – the idea that every encounter is a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Let’s meet each other with kindness and respect, so we can build a friendly and thoughtful community together.

私たちはアムステルフェーンを拠点に、日本や文化交流に興味のある人たちが気軽に集まることができるグループです。
最初にグループを立ち上げたアーティストのゴローは2024年にオランダを離れ、今は京都で姉妹グループを運営しながら、アムステルフェーンのグループ運営を引き継いだ地元のオーガナイザーチームをサポートしています。
私たちは、日本語や日本文化を中心に言語やアートや地域のイベントを通じて、お互いの経験をシェアし気軽に話し合える友人を作ることを目的に、イベントを開催しています。
定期的な活動には、
– 週末の日本語クラブ
– 地元イベントへのお出かけ（ジャパンフェスティバル、お花見ウォークなど）
– そのほか各オーガナイザーが企画するイベント
などがあります。
「一期一会」の気持ちを大切にしながら、互いに思いやりと敬意を持って接することを大事にしています。みんなで安心して過ごせる、温かいコミュニティを一緒につくっていきましょう。

Riichi Mahjong is the Japanese variant of Mahjong and one of the most popular strategy games in Japan. During this event, you’ll learn the basic rules, how to build winning hands, and how a game is played. After a short introduction, we’ll play beginner-friendly practice rounds together.Notes:
- No gambling
- This event is intended for beginners learning Riichi Mahjong

[About the Japanese Language Club]
It’s a weekly Japanese-themed event hosted by different organisers with a variety of games, conversations and grammar practices.
We warmly welcome anyone who shares an interest in Japan, including those who are:
– interested in the Japanese language and how to use it, regardless of their level.
– keen to share stories about living in or travelling to Japan.
– curious about exploring both traditional and modern aspects of Japanese culture.
– especially those from Japan who want to maintain or improve their English by talking about familiar cultural topics.We truly hope everyone in the group finds joy and inspiration through these cultural adventures with the “ichigo ichie” spirit.
