The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in democratic societies is an ongoing concern for many researchers, albeit for different reasons. During this event, we will explore the often illegitimate but not illegal applications of AI in democratic practices, focusing on the role of the news media, political decision-making, and policy.

About the speakers:
Hansens Cools, a Marie Curie Scholar at the University of Southern Denmark, is an Assistant Professor in New Technologies at the University of Amsterdam. He focuses on AI, computational journalism, and news automation.

Plixavra Vogiatzoglou, a postdoctoral researcher at the Amsterdam Center for International Law and Institute for Information Law, critically assesses digital policy and governance frameworks.

Annemijn Kwikkers, a PhD student at the University of Amsterdam, is part of AlgoSoc, an interdisciplinary consortium that studies public values in the algorithmic society. Her project focuses on the transformation of democratic values and digital deliberative activities, focusing on algorithmic decision-systems.
