DevOops Amsterdam #1

Details
Welcome to our first DevOops Event 🔥!
Do you have an incident story to share? We would love to hear it:
https://forms.gle/sMM9YcxRn9XVVw237
Incidents and failures are great. Let's talk about them and embrace together a blameless culture.
During the event, three speakers will present one of their favorite IT incidents from their careers. Let's hear and learn more about undetected bugs in the application code, like the Mariner 1 Spacecraft 1962, deploying accidentally to production, or solving a mysterious incident like a detective.
Agenda
06.00 pm - Doors open
06.30 pm - Welcome
06.40 pm - Incident stories:
- Ivan Merrill - Payday Friday
The one time when Ivan restarted the wrong server and kicked 15,000 people off internet banking. - Jos van Schouten - This is only a test server
During routine maintenance, a test server was pulled offline. This turned out to be during production. This short talk (10-15 mins) is not about the incident Jos solved (this was literally turning a server back on). It's about the chain of assumptions that led to a faulty decision and the lessons he learned from this incident. - Jai Campbell - SRE on call: keep calm, it's only an incident
Jai will provide a quick summary of how he transitioned into SRE from working as a sysadmin. Walking through the type of organization Jai worked at during his first SRE role, describing the pressure engineering was under at the time as they onboarded a new video management product whilst supporting real-time customer facing platforms. Jai will run through a production issue that he had to support, the incident management process, and steps to mitigate the issue. Ending with a few takeaways to share with the audience with time for Q&A
07:25 pm - PowerPoint Karaoke
07:40 pm - Get together: Snacks and Drinks
