Cloud Native @ASML with Octopus: ArgoCD and more!

Details

We're back! And this time we go south, for the first time we reach the green pastures of Brabant as we're hosted by the friendly folks at ASML. Moreover, we are supported by the cool people from Octopus (you may know them as Octopus Deploy, but they do more than CI/CD!); they're bring a super star speaker all the way from Greece (let's give him a warm welcome!).

You can also visit the experience center of ASML which will be open just for us!

The program will go as this:

  • 17:00-18:00 Walk-in, Welcome
  • 18:15-19:00 1st Talk: Niels Heetesonne and Nick Heinemans (ASML) Enforcing guardrails without disruption
  • 19:00-19:45 Pizzas
  • 19:45-20:30 2nd Talk: Kostis Kapelonis (Octopus): Scaling up Argo CD for the Enterprise
  • 20:30 - 21:30 Networking & drinks (open for impromptu lighting talks)
  • 21:30 End

1st Talk:
Title: Enforcing guardrails without disruption

Our journey to implement admission control on running Kubernetes clusters, how we enforced policies on new workloads without disruptions, all while providing actionable insights to improve existing workloads.

Speaker:
Niels Heetesonne and Nick Heinemans are part of the Container Platform Services team. They are seasoned Cloud Engineers with extensive experience designing, securing, and optimizing cloud-native infrastructure at scale. Niels is passionate about bridging the gap between platform engineering and developer experience. With a strong focus on Kubernetes, policy-as-code, and workload governance, Nick has led initiatives that empower teams to adopt secure-by-default practices without compromising agility.

2nd Talk:
Title: Scaling up Argo CD for the Enterprise

Description:
Performing a quick installation of Argo CD just for experimentation is very easy. But how do you make sure that you have a production ready setup that will work
not only for the first team that adopts GitOps, but for every other team in your Organization?. How should you organize your Git repositories? What about RBAC configuration?
One Argo CD instance or many individual ones? Application Sets or App-of-Apps? TargetRevision to HEAD or a specific branch? Self-heal enabled only in production or in all environments?

In this talk we will see how to adopt Argo CD in a big organization and all the best practices that you need to follow for both operators and developers. Kubernetes deployments don't have to be hard
if you know what to avoid and what to embrace in your GitOps journey.

Speaker:
Kostis Kapelonis is a developer advocate at Octopus deploy and also a member of the Argo team focusing mainly on Argo CD and Argo Rollouts.

Photography/Video consent:
We will be taking photos and videos during the event and will use these photos and videos for social media and promotional materials. By coming to the meet-up, you give us your consent to take photos and videos of you.
