What we’re about
Welcome to the Amsterdam Movie Group. Join us as we explore the magic of cinema! Our group is dedicated to bringing moviegoers together to watch films at the cinema and engage in lively discussions afterward. Whether you’re into foreign films, art house, sci-fi, classics, action, drama, documentaries, or anything in between, there’s a place for you here.
I will do my best to manage different genres of films at various cinemas in Amsterdam. Everyone is responsible for buying tickets (I will post the link). If you find a movie you'd like to watch together and discuss afterward, please feel free to post it in our active Whatsapp group. All movie suggestions are welcomed and encouraged. Let’s discover new favorites together!
Come for the movies, stay for the conversation. See you soon!
Important: Only RSVP if you have purchased a ticket and are certain you will attend. If you are unable to attend the event, do not RSVP. All the information is in the description, please read it carefully.

Runtime: 1 hour and 46 minutes
Year: 1967
A cultural touchstone that brilliantly captures a generation caught between tradition and rebellion. We follow the recently graduated Benjamin Braddock as he drifts aimlessly through his affluent parents' expectations, only to find himself entangled in a famously scandalous affair that's as hilarious as it is poignant. With its iconic Simon & Garfunkel soundtrack, groundbreaking cinematography, and a star-making performance from Dustin Hoffman, this classic film offers a sharp, witty, and ultimately thought-provoking look at love, disillusionment, and the confusing search for meaning in a rapidly changing world.
The film is in English, with Dutch subtitles

Directed by: Stanley Kubrick
Starring: Malcolm McDowell, Patrick Magee, Michael Bates, Warren Clarke, Adrienne Corri, Carl Duering, Paul Farrell, Clive Francis, Miriam Karlin, James Marcus, Aubrey Morris, and Godfrey Quigley
Runtime: 2 hours and 16 minutes
Year: 1971
Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange is a visually striking dystopian film that explores free will, violence, and state control. Its use of classical music—especially Beethoven—adds a chilling contrast to the brutal imagery. Kubrick’s bold, surreal directing style makes every scene unforgettable. The film raises tough questions about morality and manipulation—disturbing, stylish, and endlessly thought-provoking, a must-see for any film lover.
Content warning: This film contains disturbing and violent imagery that may not be suitable for all viewers.
Fun fact: Kubrick himself withdrew the film from UK distribution for nearly 30 years due to public backlash and controversy. It wasn’t officially available again until after his death in 1999.The film is in English, with Dutch subtitles.

Directed by: Akira Kurosawa
Starring: Tatsuya Nakadai, Akira Terao, Jinpachi Nezu, Daisuke Ryu, and Mieko Harada
Runtime: 2 hours and 42 minutes
Year: 1985
In honor of its 40th anniversary, Akira Kurosawa's "Ran" returns to the big screen in a stunning 4K restoration. This Oscar and BAFTA-winning epic reimagines Shakespeare's "King Lear" in 16th-century Japan, where the aging warlord Hidetora Ichimonji's decision to divide his kingdom among his sons sparks a tragic tale of betrayal, chaos, and madness. With breathtaking visuals and a powerful narrative, "Ran" remains a timeless masterpiece that interrogates the devastating consequences of war.
