Directed by: Lynne Ramsay

Starring: Tilda Swinton, John C. Reilly, Ezra Miller

Runtime: 1 hour and 52 minutes

Year: 2011

Tilda Swinton delivers one of her most acclaimed performances in this harrowing psychological drama. Based on the award-winning novel by Lionel Shriver, the film explores a deeply unsettling relationship between a mother and her increasingly disturbed son, culminating in a devastating act of violence. Swinton’s portrayal of a woman grappling with guilt, denial, and responsibility has been widely praised as both fearless and deeply affecting.

Prior to We Need to Talk About Kevin, a short film 35 mm copy will be screened of Norman McLaren’s Canadian pixilation short film Neighbours (1952, 8’), in which a neighbourly dispute gets completely out of hand.

This screening is part of the Eye’s exhibition dedicated to Tilda Swinton –the celebrated Scottish performer, artist, and fashion icon. This unique and personal exhibition centers on Swinton’s creative collaborations.

The film is in English, with Dutch subtitles.
