Paris 1959, Jean-Luc Godard shoots his debut film À Bout de Souffle (Breathless), which later becomes a legendary classic and the starting point of the French New Wave cinema movement. Godard, who was until then a film critic for Cahiers du Cinéma, decides that making films himself is the best criticism. He secures funding for a low-budget film and reworks François Truffaut's gangster couple screenplay in his own style. Despite doubts from cast and crew about Godard's unconventional methods, his debut proves to be a hit, attracting over 2.5 million visitors in France, earning awards for Godard and a BAFTA nomination for lead actress Jean Seberg. The film captures the creative energy and chaos of the moment when French New Wave cinema was born, highlighting the youthful spirit and revolutionary filmmaking techniques. The film is in black and white with a 4:3 aspect ratio, reflecting the style of the era it portrays.
