Details

  • Are you interested in learning more about open-source data technologies? ✅
  • Do you want to network with local and international tech professionals in a fun, relaxed environment? ✅

Then join us on June 18, for an evening full of inspiring conversations and exciting talks.

Agenda:

  • 18:00 - 18:30 Welcome: Networking & snacks
  • 18:30 - 18:40 Kickoff: event notes
  • 18:40 - 19:20 Beyond B-trees, looking at columnar storage and LSM trees - Dave Pitts, Database Engineer, Adyen
  • Abstract: While the concepts of columnar storage are relatively intuitive, LSM trees work and behave fundamentally very differently from B-trees and this can lead to some really surprising behavior. Devs can still use regular SQL commands, but the performance can go from very good to very bad, based on the “use case”.
  • 19:30 - 20:10 Traceablilty and diagnosability of a database: SQL - Piet de Visser, Independent database consultant, ex-Shell, ex-logicacmg, "Oracle guy but nice"
  • Abstract: You need traceability in order to troubleshoot your systems. To find, filter, and combine the available data we should use SQL instead of relying on any one monitoring tool. How you present the data still up to you, SQL and APIs are your friend. But basic-data should come from SQL, and should not rely on knowledge of Zabbix/Nagios/Prometheus/insert-your-tool-here.
  • 20:10 ~ 21:00 Networking

Please note that this is an alcohol-free event. Light bites will be provided.
By attending this event, you agree to abide by our Community Code of Conduct.
