# Ruby game development workshop time!!!

We are going to learn how to convert a plain Ruby on Rails application into a real-time game engine, with no additional libraries.

This workshop (17:00 - 21:00 CEST) is for engineers at all levels.
However, judging by the previous editions, there is something new for almost anyone.

## What?!

You'll have a chance to work with a multiplayer, real-time game built with vanilla Rails.

We have a game, which needs some tweaks and new features. The workshop also includes a presentation on the key concepts needed for high-availability and robust applications.

The knowledge presented in the workshop is not limited to game development. It is directly usable in any Ruby on Rails application to increase its performance and reliability.

The key learnings:

  • How to use Hotwire to broadcast a real-time game
  • Command pattern usage for scaling application traffic
  • Tactical Domain-Driven Design elements and their usage in Ruby on Rails
  • Usage of AI for generating graphic contest

(!!!) And top of all that, we are going to fight an evil Wizard and hopefully, to save a Princess.

Things you will need for this:

  • a laptop (duh) with access to
  • Ruby,
  • Postgres
  • Redis

This workshop is created and delivered by the Polish Ruby community, and has been held at conferences such as Wroclove.rb and the Ruby Warsaw Community Conference.

Their page on the workshop is here: https://www.visuality.pl/workshops/game-development-in-ruby-on-rails

We're happy that they're in Amsterdam today, and willing to help us enhance our craft.

## Where?

We are hosted by Studytube in their Amsterdam office
