Navigating Git: Essential Skill for Tech Writers

Details

Currently, more and more writers adopt the docs-as-code approach. As we do that, we have to learn the tools that come with it. One of these tools is Git.

For technical writers, Git can be both a challenge and an essential instrument they can’t spend a day without. Git helps writers manage their content, keeping track of changes and allowing collaboration with others. These days, not only tech companies use Git, but everyone who values the benefits of version control.

Our speaker for this meetup is Anna Skoulikari. Anna is a tech communicator and the author of Learning Git: A Hands-On and Visual Guide to the Basics of Git (O’Reilly).

Agenda

In the first part of the meetup, Anna will give a presentation with tips for learning and understanding the basics of Git.

After a break, we will have a discussion session where we will chat and ask questions not only about the Git itself, but also about Anna’s experience as a technical communicator who wrote a technical book.

Are you also a technical writer who dreams about writing a book? Do you use Git in your everyday work? Does how Git works still seem a bit fuzzy to you? Come along, it will be fun!

About Anna

Anna briefly worked as a UX designer and frontend developer before discovering that technical writing was the position that matched her skills the best.

Through a fortunate series of events, Anna was able to use her storytelling and communication skills to teach Git basics in a way that is accessible to absolute beginners as well as people with some experience. She has created an online course, Git workshops, and most recently published a book teaching Git. Her teaching methodology uses colors, visuals, and hands-on exercises to teach Git in a simple and tangible way.
