Amsterdam UX Cocktail Hour at Miro with Peter Merholz on June 28 (Tuesday!)

Details
Hello? (blows dust off the microphone) Is this thing on?
I don’t know where to begin. I hope you are all healthy. I hope you are all safe.
It has been 2 years and 3 months since we had our last Amsterdam UX Cocktail Hour. And then a lot of things happened and many of us lost touch with the community.
But we’re coming back! In-person events are possible again and on June 28 (Tuesday!) my new employer, Miro, is welcoming the UX community to re-connect, show what design means at Miro, learn from an expert, and socialize over drinks and snacks.
The program looks like this:
18:00 - Doors open, snacks & drinks
18:45 - Welcome, jobs & events
19:00 - Design at Miro
19:15 - Peter Merholz on Design Leadership (see below)
20:00 - Snacks & drinks
21:30 - Doors close
I hope you all remember the deal: RSVP for a spot on the attendee list (first 50 spots) or the waiting list. Give up your spot when you realize you can not make it after all, so I can move people from the waiting list to the attendee list.
Miro is located in the WeWork building on Stadhouderskade 5 in Amsterdam, very close to Leidseplein and Vondelpark. Please be kind & patient as the WeWork staff helps you reach the building’s top floor where the event will take place.
You have no idea how much I look forward to hosting you all at Miro!

Peter
The main presentation of the evening will be delivered by Peter Merholz, co-founder of Adaptive Path, co-author of the book Org Design for Design Orgs, and inventor of the word ‘blog’.
The title of his talk is “The Evolving Design Leader: embracing your new form as you advance in your career”, and he describes it as follows:
The Peter Principle (not named for me, but for organizational consultant Laurence J. Peter) states that because people are promoted based on prior success, they end up rising to a level of their incompetence, because the skills that got them there aren’t those that will carry them forward. This is particularly true in the field of design, as it is only recently that we’ve seen true executive design roles, and we’re all still figuring out how we can best contribute.
In this talk, Peter (Merholz) will prepare you for each stage in your leadership journey, from IC to manager to director to VP and beyond. In which direction should you be oriented: managing down, across, or up-and-out? What activities are worth your time and effort (ensuring quality delivery; recruiting and hiring; strategy and vision)? The answers vary as you evolve in your career.
