What we’re about
This group is for Amsterdam area women who love reading books (all types), and who want to meet other women with similar interests.
About our meetings: We gather (either virtually or in person, in cafes) to discuss our favorite books and authors. We occasionally read and discuss the same book (as in a traditional book club), while at other times we talk about whatever each of us is reading.
We focus on women authors (or authors identifying as women) either writing in English or translated into English. For example: Margaret Atwood, Jane Austen, Octavia Butler, Alba de Céspedes, Joan Didion, Annie Dillard, Jennifer Egan, Deborah Eisenberg, Louise Erdrich, Elena Ferrante, Lauren Groff, Pam Houston, Jane Kenyon, Erika Krouse, Jhumpa Lahiri, Ursula K. Le Guin, Yiyun Li, Lorrie Moore, Alice Munro, Tillie Olsen, Cynthia Ozick, Grace Paley, Dorothy Parker, E. Annie Proulx, Rebecca Solnit, Elizabeth Strout, Virginia Woolf.
CANCELLATION POLICY: For a variety of reasons, including space limitations in cafes, if you have said "yes" and your plans change, please update your RSVP status as soon as you know you cannot attend. This allows members on the waiting list enough time to get and read the book.
NO-SHOWs: New members who are no-shows to their first two meetups will be removed from The Amsterdam Women Book Club.
