Talk: The science of happiness
Speaker: Kristina Stojcik
Kristina Stojcik is a software engineer working at Mollie and living in Amsterdam. She's been working in PHP since the end of her formal education, 10ish years ago.
A talk inspired by the course "The science of wellbeing" at Coursera, by Professor Laurie Santos at Yale University. The course has changed the way on how Kristina sees happiness and she believes she can bring fresh perspective to others too.
The talk covers few misconceptions we have about things that bring happiness in our lives, and some other things we can try instead, to reach that happiness in a more sustainable way.
The course has its roots in positive psychology, but within the talk she makes sure to distinguish science-based facts as opposing to toxic positivity.
Part of the talk covers the concept of Flow, which ultimately makes us happy while completing challenging tasks. People can use that to find jobs that bring them fulfilment.
