An Examined Life - A discussion group to exchange ideas and opinions related to psychology, science and philosophy.
The format is that we select a theme and pick a book related to that theme to discuss.
The link to the book will be posted and also a talk/podcast related to the book should you not have time to read the full book before the meetup.
Pre-reading is not mandatory, however, everyone will get more out of the session if you read the book or listen to the short talk.
The aim is to meet downstairs in Wetherspoons, ask around downstairs and I'm sure you'll find the group!
Join us for a thought-provoking discussion on Stephen R. Covey's classic book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change. This timeless work explores seven universal principles that foster personal and professional effectiveness. Covey emphasizes sustainable, long-term growth by working from the inside out, offering a framework to help individuals achieve success through character-based habits.
Overview of the Book
Covey introduces the following seven habits:
• Be Proactive: Take initiative and responsibility for your actions, focusing on what you can control.
• Begin with the End in Mind: Define clear goals and outcomes to align your actions with your values.
• Put First Things First: Prioritize important tasks over urgent but less meaningful ones.
• Think Win-Win: Seek mutually beneficial solutions in relationships and interactions.
• Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood: Practice empathetic listening before expressing your views.
• Synergize: Collaborate effectively by leveraging the strengths of others for better results.
• Sharpen the Saw: Continuously renew yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
