POP UP HIKE - HEART LAKE!

Sorry for the short notice but the forecast looks amazing for Sunday.

We are re-visiting some of our Anacortes classic hikes. Heart Lake has some great old growth forests – “ancient groves of giant cedars and firs” - and lots and lots of mushrooms in season.
The Basics: We’ll do a larger loop than is typical, probably about 4.5 miles total. Elevation gain is minimal. We will meet at the trailhead parking lot off of Heart Lake Road. No parking pass is required. Plan on approximately 2.5 hours of hiking at a slow to moderate pace, approximately 2 mph. There is adequate parking, garbage and restroom facilities at the trailhead.

Getting There: From Bellingham, Burlington, etc., take WA-20 west. Take a right on R Avenue (the first arterial entering Anacortes); turn left on 32nd, turn left on D Avenue, D turns into 37th and follow 37th around to A Avenue. Turn left on 41st and then right on H. Follow H Avenue as it turns into Heart Lake Road. Look for the largest trailhead parking lot by the lake.

Direction note: Sorry I couldn't edit the map pin, not sure why. The trailhead is the large one just before the Sugarloaf/Mt Erie trailhead. It's pretty obvious.

If you are on the waitlist and do wish to attend please monitor your Meetup account the day of the event as oftentimes there is some shuffling and you may find that you do have a spot! Rain Policy: A hard rain cancels, showers do not. Watch Weather Underground the day before. If the forecast is over 50% rain for the time of the hike watch for a possible cancellation notice.
