What we’re about
We love folk dancing, folk music, and folk singing in Anchorage, and across Alaska. Our events feature different art forms and come from different ethnic traditions.
The Anchorage Folk Dance Meetup Group:
Welcomes participants of any ethnic background.
Is inclusive for participants of any gender, orientation or age.
Encourages young participants, but they should want to be there and be capable of following directions. They need to bring responsible adults with them.
Is orientated to group participation, and singles are always welcome.
Accepts participants of any level of experience. Most of our events include instructions for beginners. If it is for experienced dancers only, it will say so explicitly.
We are encouraging, remembering that we were once beginners too. We love these activities and cherish the opportunity to pass this on to new participants.
We don't do the same thing over and over; we try to make our events fun, interesting and challenging with new dances, new songs, new tunes.
All of these activities are open to the public and announced in other venues. Your RSVP via MeetUp is not required to attend, and the count of RSVPs you see here does not reflect the actual number of people attending our activities.
