Is happiness something to chase, or is contentment something to cultivate?

Many of us spend our lives pursuing the next achievement, relationship, experience, or milestone in the hope that it will make us happier. But philosophers, psychologists, and spiritual traditions have long questioned whether lasting fulfillment comes from pursuing happiness at all—or from learning to be content with what we already have.
Is happiness fleeting while contentment is enduring? Can you be content without being happy? Does pursuing happiness actually make us less happy? Is contentment a form of acceptance, or does it discourage ambition? What does it really mean to live a good life?
