What we’re about
Come one, come all: folks of all body types, folks with disabilities, neurodivergent folks, queer folks, folks of all gender expressions, folks with kids and fur-kids, mushroom-hunters and photogs tired of having to run to catch up to the group, folks reluctant to hike alone (and willing to hike slowly), folks who don’t think hiking is for them.
This group is for slow hikers and hikers willing to slowly. I believe in taking breaks, heavy breathing, traveling only as fast as the slowest group member, and having fun!
I’m a fat, black, geeky, picture-taking outdoor enthusiast with joint and night vision challenges. I am excited to hike more here in Alaska and to find others who might want to join me.
I started this group in hopes of having folks with whom I can get outside. Safety in numbers! I’ve got bear spray, a little trepidation, and a lot of enthusiasm.
I am no guide and no expert! Every hiker is ultimately responsible for their own safety. I bring the ten essentials, and I hope you will too:

I can only hike in daylight so ‘finishing’ may look different if we risk running out of daylight. (Thank goodness for Alaskan summer light!)
I’d love to have experts join to share their knowledge. If you know folks with expertise, please share.
I envision being able to do some 1-2 night backpacking trips, car camping, cabin rentals, photography-specific outings, snowshoeing, kayaking, outdoor art, and any other fun outdoor things that we might discover. Maybe we can picnic sometimes, or share a meal afterwards.
Note: ‘easy, ‘moderate’, and ‘hard’ mean different things to different hikers. Whenever possible, I will try to provide more specific details about challenges that may be encountered on any given outing, so that folks can have an idea of what to expect.
Everybody outside!
