This hike starts at the Rainbow Trailhead, meanders gently up the Turnagain Arm Trail for a mile, where it takes a hard right straight up the quite steep ridge, then up an even steeper scree gully. You should be comfortable on steep scrambles.

Estimated Duration: 4-5 hours

What to Expect: This is being set up as an unstructured hike to 1) knock out all of the peaks on weeknights throughout the summer, 2) Meet others, and 3) Get back at a reasonable time. Because of this last part, this is geared toward faster-paced hikers, since a lot of these mountains around Anchorage require 3+ hours to complete. But if you want to start off with us and go slower, or bring others to go your pace--feel free, especially if you’re comfortable hiking alone! There are no rules: if you need to head back early that’s fine. If you want to be slow, that’s fine. If you want to take off and go extra fast, that’s fine. If you want to bring your well-behaved dog, that’s fine. If you want to talk a lot, that’s fine (you agree not to be offended if someone doesn’t want to listen). If you want to just tag along and listen to your favorite podcast instead, that’s fine.

If You’ve Never Done a Group Hike Like This Before: depending on how many people come, a larger starting group tends to lead to multiple smaller groups forming based on pace, and is much less intimidating than you’d have imagined. Feel free to reach out with a message if you are curious about any other details.

Please Note: if you plan to start earlier or later, it’d make the logistics SO much easier if you don’t sign up as “Going” to this event. It’d also make things much more simple if you don’t use the comments to try to persuade other people to go at your desired time instead.

We will start hiking right at the time listed above, so plan to get there at least 15 minutes early, because our estimated arrival times are always earlier than reality time!
