Questions for contemplation and discussion:

1. Do you believe that life is always fair, usually fair, or seldom fair? What are your reasons
for your belief?
2. Do you agree that a thought creates an energy field that affects every conscious entity to
some degree, especially those who are close by or the object of the thought?

3. Shakespeare said, “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” Do you
agree? Why or why not?

4. How can you protect yourself from the negative thoughts of other people?

5. What does it mean “to be in the world but not of the world”?

6. Is it fair that you, the personality in this lifetime, should suffer the negative karma of
another personality from a previous lifetime?

7. Does perfect justice rule the world?

8. Do you think that severe punishments for people who break the law serve as a deterrent
for others? Can you cite examples to support your opinion?

9. What is vairāgya? Do you think it would be helpful to develop and practice it in your
own life?

10. Would it be helpful to force people to live in harmony with each other if that were
possible? Why or why not?

11. Do you ever express opinions about other people, either celebrities or people you know
personally? Is there any harm in that?

12. How many hours a week do you watch television or movies? Do you feel this is time
well-spent? Is there something that would be a better use of this time?

13. What is kāma-manas? Can you give an example of how it works?

14. Make a list of all the groups you belong to either by birth or by choice, such as your
nation(s), ethnic groups, religion, educational groups, special interest organizations,
clubs, sports teams (either as member or supporter), etc. Include also some types of group
karma that may be associated with each group.
