Android Budapest November* 2022: Journeys into Compose Land

Time to get ready for our next meetup! At this nearly-November event, we'll take a closer look at Jetpack Compose, Android's modern toolkit for building UI. We’ll learn about how Compose can be adopted by a company through two different case studies. First, we’ll see how Supercharge built an app from scratch using Compose, and then we’ll take a look at how TIER is adopting it incrementally into an existing application and design system.

📜 Schedule
18:00 - 18:30: Socializing
18:30 - 19:00: Our journey to master Jetpack Compose by Csaba Kozák and Csaba Szugyiczki
19:00 - 19:15: Break
19:15 - 19:45: Composing an Octopus by István Juhos
19:45 - : More socializing!

🔷 Our journey to master Jetpack Compose - Csaba Kozák and Csaba Szugyiczki, Supercharge

Although Jetpack Compose has been available for some time, most of the examples and case studies are limited to small applications. In our presentation, we will deep dive into how we built a massive application from scratch in Jetpack Compose while it was still in beta version and what we learned along the way: reorganising existing architecture, defining our UI library, developing custom components, and creating our own best practices while improving performance.

🔷 Composing an Octopus - István Juhos, TIER

At TIER, we’re in the process of adopting Jetpack Compose into our quite large code base. One of the most significant milestones of this journey was to have our design system, Octopus, implemented in pure Compose UI. In this talk, I’ll present how we built Octopus Compose, and what we gained by reimplementing components instead of wrapping existing Views in AndroidView.

🏢 TIER is kind enough to host us in their office in the K6 building on Astoria, and they are also providing food and drinks for the event!

🚪 Doors open @ 18:00 and the talks start @ 18:30!

The event is free but requires registration, so please RSVP and update your response if it changes!

📸 We plan to take photos, so if you would not like to appear on them, please tell one of the organizers!

🎤 We are always looking for new presenters for our meetups, so if you have an idea for a talk, please submit it here: www.androidbudapest.com/talkidea
