Why Kotlin: The Problems It Solves and Where It Takes You

Kotlin is more than a modern alternative to Java. This session explores the real engineering problems Kotlin was designed to solve, from null safety and boilerplate to concurrency, and how these ideas extend beyond Android into backend, multiplatform and build tooling.

Android Beyond the UI: What Happens Behind Your App Screen?
Speaker: Tim Owen
What happens after a user taps a button?
This session looks beyond the Compose screen and explores how UI, state, APIs, local data and architecture come together to build an Android feature. Along the way, Tim will share some of the things he wishes he knew when he started Android development.

Working with big data in Compose the right way
Speaker: Donald Okara
This session explores how to build Compose UIs that can handle large amounts of data without doing unnecessary work. Don will expound on lazy layouts, recomposition, stable keys, and recomposition scoping. He will then show how to use profiling tools to hunt down where the UI is spending its time.
