Primer on OpenGL ES by Hod Greeley & Alexander Barnes, Samsung

Details

A primer on OpenGL ES by Hod Greeley and Alexander Barnes. This feature presentation itself will begin at 7 PM (to allow for traffic), but we'll start general announcements and other business around 6:30 PM.

Hod Greeley has been programming professionally for over 17 years. He has worked in a variety of software fields, including computational physics and chemistry, computer and network security, investment management, and mobile devices. Before moving to his current role as a technical evangelist/developer advocate with Samsung Mobile Innovator, he led an Android development team at Samsung’s San Jose Mobile Communications Lab, Mobile R&D Group. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from Columbia University.

Here is some background information (http://insanitydesign.com/wp/projects/nehe-android-ports/) on OpenGL ES. Those same examples can be downloaded from the Market for free if you search for "Open GL Demos" by Cosmin Banu. And here are some simpler clearer better written tutorials (http://blog.jayway.com/2009/12/03/opengl-es-tutorial-for-android-part-i/) on that same topic (there are six tutorials, I recommend you try to go through all of them, even if you're just skimming).

Hod will have his own tutorial/presentation which he will make available on here, and which is just as awesome, but if you're new to OpenGL, any reading which you can do ahead of this talk (even if you don't understand everything you're reading) will greatly benefit your understanding of what he has to say.
