What we’re about
The Angels of Freedom community group launched in December 2017 with the aims of providing compassionate support & increasing awareness of risks and vulnerabilities within the Leeds LGBTQ+ communities.
We provide positive opportunities to work within the community, and provide a constructive forum for engagement with organisations such as West Yorkshire Police, British Transport Police and Leeds City Council in addition to partnership working with agencies such as Samaritans Leeds, Forward Leeds and others providing support.
In this group we'll share opportunities to engage with activities led by our project along with those of our partners.

The Angels of Freedom and the Leeds United Foundation have joined forces to bring you free weekly football fitness classes! Here's what you need to know:
• Everyone is invited to join, regardless of skill level or experience. If you're over 18 and new to the game, fret not, as you're more than welcome to come along.
• Led by LUFC enabled coaches, these sessions are all about teamwork, getting fit, and having fun. There's no competition, just a bunch of friendly folks working up a sweat on the pitch.
• No need to book in advance, just rock up on the day. But do make sure to wear comfy clothes that suit the weather, plus either trainers or football boots.
And, of course, don't forget your water bottle to keep you hydrated throughout the session.

- Rainbow Collective: Peer support group with BattleScarsOnward Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub, Leeds
Message from BattleScars:
We know from both research and our lived experience that LGBTQ+ individuals are disproportionately affected by self-harm, often due to the added layers of stigma, isolation, discrimination, and identity-related struggles they may face. Many of the people we support have told us they wish for a safe, understanding space where they can connect with others who truly “get it” – not just around self-harm, but also around their identity.
That’s why we created the Rainbow Collective: a non-judgmental and inclusive safe space where LGBTQ+ people can talk openly, support one another, and begin to heal – led by peers who’ve been through similar experiences.
When: Every other Wednesday, starting 20th August 2025
Time: 6:30pm – 8:00pm (doors open from 6:20pm for a friendly meet & greet)
Where: Onward Mental Health & Wellbeing Hub, Millshaw Park Way, Leeds, LS11 0LS
Who’s it for? Anyone aged 18+ who identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community and self-harms or has a history of self-harm (physical or psychological).
How to join: no need to book – come along when ready, no pressure to attend every time, no postcode restrictions
