What weâre about
Halò! Ciamar a tha sibh? đđź This is the meetup.com group for An Lòchran, the Glasgow-based Scottish Gaelic charity!
WHAT WE DO
We run events several times a week, mostly at An Lòchran, 22 Mansfield St, Partick G11 5QP, so that Scottish Gaelic speakers can use / practice their Gaelic, meet others who want to do the same, and help keep this beautiful language alive and strong.
All of our events are listed either here on Meetup, or on the An Lòchran website here.
WHO WE'RE FOR
Although most of our events are for speakers who are semi-fluent, fluent or native, we do also run some events for beginners.
Examples are Andy's all-levels events (usually two Saturdays a month), and our guided reading sessions (check here each week to see if there's one on). Online we also run a monthly creative writing gig for beginners and learners, check that out here.
Our overarching goal, though, is to provide an environment where Gaelic can be used as a first language, ahead of English. This may sound a little ambitious/brutal, but it's necessary if Gaelic is going to go from strength to strength (bho neart gu neart, as the Gaels say).
