Summer Classic Film Series - Hollywood Home Runs: Pick of the Baseball Flicks

What better way to celebrate summer than a look at “the nation’s pastime” in feature films. In our summer series, "Hollywood Home Runs: Pick of the Baseball Flicks" we’ll view four of the best of the almost 200 movies that have been dedicated to telling the story of this most defining of American sports.

Each film is introduced by area cinephile Ann Glenn with info about the film’s production, director, actors and followed by a lively Q&A session.

An inspiring, heartfelt comedy spotlighting the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, active from 1943 to 1954. Major league baseball executives founded the league during WWII hoping to keep the sport in the public eye. Featuring s strong female cast (including Geena Davis, Rosie O’Donnel, Madonna) and a scene stealing performance by Tom Hanks as the team’s cynical, alcoholic manager. 2 hrs. 8 mins. Rated PG.
