Movie at the Library: 42 The Jackie Robinson Story

Details

What better way to celebrate summer than a look at “the nation’s pastime” in feature films? In this series, we’ll view four of the best of the almost 200 movies that have been dedicated to telling the story of this most defining of American sports. Each film is introduced by area cinephile Ann Glenn with info about the film’s production, director, actors, and followed by a lively Q&A session.

42: The Jackie Robinson Story (2013)
In 1947, the Brooklyn Dodgers hired Jackie Robinson, making him the first Black baseball player to join the major leagues. Robinson, who was a star in the “Negro Leagues,” must deal with both subtle and virulent racism from the press, fans, fellow teammates and players from opposing teams. A realistic and vivid portrayal of a pivotal period in American sports and culture.
2 hrs. 8 mins. PG-13.
