What we’re about
About:
A support group for allies against anti-black racism, who want to offer love and support, and African-descended people who have faced racism or discrimination in Vancouver.
This isn’t group therapy by trained professionals, more of a safe space to share your thoughts and feelings. Let’s meet up once a month (every mid-Sunday of the month for coffee to talk about our experiences with discussion questions.
I was inspired to create this group by my racist parents, who treated my boyfriend badly because of his ethnicity. This resulted in a break-up in the past, so it tells me that this topic needs to be discussed. I hope to redeem myself by creating this group, and for all the people in Vancouver who have treated Black people badly.
Change starts with one individual. I can’t promise I can change the system, but I will stand up and speak up against anti-Black racism, so drop in Sunday afternoon for coffee, and let's chat about our life experiences. Although we may be strangers, we have a moral compass and are guided by the desire for truth and justice, and to give African/Black-descended individuals strength and dignity.
This is a new meet-up group, but I'm not a new organizer. You can see pictures of my old coffee club meetup group on Instagram: @exploringvancouvercoffee
