Writing Out, Speaking Up (over Zoom)

Details
As we continue to reveal, acknowledge, grieve, and confront the realities of racism and state violence against so many Black and Brown people, many of us are feeling the greater need--and value--of speaking out against racism in order to end and undo it. We are accepting that we MUST talk with our family, friends, neighbors, employers (and many more) to talk about racial injustice. We might want to reach out to folks with a letter, a poem, a song, a speech, or a social media post. Maybe we have started to think about what we want to say, and we just need a nudge and a safe(r) space to practice using that voice. This meeting is for you.
For homework, we are writing drafts independently on the project we personally want to take on. This meeting is to come back and share our words, written down to practice using our voice with clarity, and to get feedback and support for making it heard. (We welcome you to share up to 5 minutes of what you have written.)
Optional writing prompt:
What does racial equity look like to you?
Note: This is NOT a writing class. We will NOT be critiquing the writing, or correcting grammar. We are using writing as a tool to practice using our voices as anti-racists. We WILL share with each other what messages we heard in the words we each wrote. Perfection is not the goal.
Whatever we practice, gets stronger. And we are stronger and better together.
All are welcome.
