Introduction to Apache Flink

Details
Join the first Apache Flink ( http://flink.apache.org/ ) meetup in Stockholm to learn about the project, the community and to get a deeper, technical introduction to using Flink for your Big Data applications.
The meetup is hosted by King, who will provide us wraps and beers! :)
We will have two talks on this occasion:
• Apache Flink: Past, present and futureSpeaker: Gyula Fóra
• Flink Deep DiveSpeaker: Vasia Kalavri
About the talks:
Apache Flink: Past, present and future
In April 2014, Flink (back then called Stratosphere) was proposed as an incubating project to the Apache Software Foundation. Nine months later, Flink graduated to an Apache top-level project.
(1) We first take a look at the Flink community, and the past of the Flink project before and after entering the Apache Software Foundation
(2) We then discuss the greater vision and goals of the Flink project. We give a high-level overview of the Flink architecture and how we aim to provide the next-generation solution for unifying batch and stream processing.
(3) Finally, we discuss the roadmap for the Flink project for 2015 and how this leads to realising the Flink vision.
Flink Deep Dive
In this talk we will give a deep technical introduction to the Flink architecture and internals. We will show how Flink exploits its great runtime features to improve over the current state of the art solutions in various important areas such as iterative processing, graph analysis and large-scale machine learning. We will give an overview of Flink's optimizer and describe how it selects efficient execution plans for Flink programs. Then, we will take a look at Flink's native iteration operators and we will discuss how they can be exploited for efficient large-scale graph processing and machine learning applications.
About the speakers:
Gyula Fóra
Gyula Fóra is a committer and PMC member for the Apache Flink project, currently working on developing Flink at SICS in Stockholm. His main expertise and interest is real-time distributed data processing frameworks, and their connections to other big data applications. He is a core architect of Flink Streaming. Besides these, his other interests include data mining and real-time predictive analytics.
Vasia Kalavri
Vasia Kalavri is a PhD student at KTH, working in the area of distributed data processing, systems optimization and large-scale graph analysis. She is also a committer and PMC member of Apache Flink, mainly working on Flink's graph processing API, Gelly.
