Title of Talk:
Apache Kafka Consumer Evolution: KIP-848 and Beyond

Abstract:
The KafkaConsumer has reached a significant milestone with the 4.0 release, delivering substantial improvements. This version represents the first complete implementation of the next-generation Consumer Group Rebalance Protocol from KIP-848. We’ll cover the new architecture, and also go into how the new consumer will bring changes to Kafka Streams via KIP-1071.

Bio:
Software Engineer @ Confluent on the Kafka Streams team. Apache Kafka committer and PMC member, author of Kafka Streams in Action.

💡Speaker Two:
JB Onofré, Director of the Apache Software Foundation & Open Source Architect at Dremio

Title of Talk:
Harnessing Apache ActiveMQ 6.x

Abstract:
After a quick reminder of what Apache ActiveMQ is, we will explore where ActiveMQ use is key in mission critical scenarios and how mixing Apache Kafka and ActiveMQ together is the perfect and multi-purpose solution. We will also see what’s coming in the ActiveMQ roadmap.

Bio:
JB is Director of the Apache Software Foundation, and member of the foundation for 15+ years. He’s PMC member on more than 20 Apache projects (Apache ActiveMQ, Apache Beam, Apache Camel, Apache Polaris, …). He’s also Open Source Architect at Dremio.

💡Speaker Three:
Russell Spitzer, Principal Engineer, Snowflake & ASF Member

Title of Talk:
Transactions and Isolation in Apache Iceberg™

Abstract:
We’ve all heard the hubbub, Apache Iceberg™ is an awesome new versatile table format that is packed with cutting edge features and supports transactions. But have you ever wondered how that transaction support actually works? What does the Iceberg Specification say about transactions? What is the Iceberg Specification? Have no fear, join us to walk through how Iceberg Transactions actually work and learn how various Isolation levels interact with Iceberg’s own validation mechanisms. We’ll work through the Apache Iceberg’s Spark Implementation of row level operations and explain how they interact with Iceberg’s underlying transaction mechanism. With this understanding, we’ll then explore what’s coming next for Apache Iceberg and how the REST specification is allowing for even finer grained commit validation in the future.
