Data Contracts: How to ensure the consistency, reliability, and quality of streaming data
Abstract:
In today's dynamic digital landscape, the proliferation of event streaming has become the lifeblood of real-time data processing, providing organisations with the ability to harness instantaneous insights. However, the deluge of data flowing through these event streams brings forth a critical challenge: maintaining data quality amidst the rapid torrent of information.
This session will delve into the identification of data anomalies to the implementation of robust quality control mechanisms, it will equip attendees with practical strategies and best practices to fortify their event streaming pipelines.

💡 Speaker:
Simon Aubury, Associate Director of Data Platforms, Simple Machines.
Bio:
Simon Aubury serves as an Associate Director of Data Platforms at Simple Machines. Simon describes his job to his children as being a “data geek”. Although it doesn’t impress his kids, he is proud to have worked around the globe building highly available distributed data systems for finance, transport, health care, insurance and telecommunications clients. Talk:
Koala Counting (and other things) With Kafka
Abstract:
Wildlife monitoring is essential for keeping track of animal movement patterns & understanding their population change. The tricky part however can be finding & identifying Koalas, Kangaroos and other species in the real world. Let's see how we can analyze population trends in the real-world with a demonstration combining a Raspberry Pi and camera, Apache Kafka, Kafka Connect to identify and classify animals. Stream transformation performed using ksqlDB processes the individual animal observations to generate dashboards to understand population trends over time.
