Bio:
James is a Senior Manager, Solutions Engineering ANZ at Confluent. His job involves discussing technical and business challenges with many large organisations, and determining the role that event streaming can play in meeting these challenges. Of particular interest to James is stream processing, how it can be used to build microservices and other applications with highly focussed data products, and how this all relates to data mesh.

Santa's Kafka Factory: An End-to-End Look at Building an Event-Driven Application

Abstract:
It has been a great year of Kafka meetups. We have dug deep aspects of Kafka including scaling telemetry, mastering producer configs, Kafka with Rest and more!For this final meetup we are going to take a step back and take a look at how all the bits actually fit together to deliver an end-user experience. This 'big picture' is often a source of confusion for those new to event streaming.And if this seems familiar it is because we were meant to do this back in August!The demo will include:

- a spring-boot application that communicates with Kafka
- a web front-end using websockets,
- producing and consuming from Kafka topics
- stream processing using Flink to add additional functionality
