Enhancing Data Pipelines with Apache Kafka and Flink: Delivering Quality and Trustworthy Data to Data Lakes and Warehouses
Abstract:
In a data-driven world, delivering high-quality, trustworthy data to data lakes and warehouses is crucial but challenging. This session explores how Apache Kafka and Apache Flink can be used together to build scalable, real-time data pipelines. Kafka ensures reliable event-driven data ingestion, while Flink processes, cleans, and validates data in motion to maintain quality and accuracy. We will look into common pains and challenges with data pipelines, including data quality issues, schema evolution, and processing inefficiencies. Additionally, we’ll discuss strategies like Shift Left to make data lakes and warehouses more efficient, improve performance, and reduce costs. This session is ideal for data engineers and architects modernizing their infrastructure.

Client Cannot Communicate - Quick Lessons From a Decade of Kafka Consulting
Abstract:
We rightly celebrate the successes of high-profile Kafka projects, but what about the less visible failures? Let's delve into the invaluable lessons learned from these disappointments. Allow me to unveil the hidden truths of avoidable failures—strategies that can compromise your project's success, sabotage your engineering endeavours, and subtly diminish your team's productivity. Drawing from extensive experience across numerous Kafka projects in various sectors such as banking, transportation, retail and product development, I've collected my fair set of scars and lessons from the field that everyone should know. Let me share the hard lessons learned for building awesome streaming applications so you don’t have to ruin your next Kafka project.
